(via DC Universe: The Source » Blog Archive » Announcing Smallville Season 11)
Wow - good move by DC. Tapping the what next market of potential new comic book fans.
It will be interesting to see if they can capture any of the magic in story board form that Durance and Welling brought to the Lois Clark dynamic.
There has always been room for “imaginary” stories - outside current canon, these became know as elseworld, and Smallville has always been that.
Imaginary stories are also IMO where the Lois Clark Romance Road to Marriage has always belonged.
Smallville has it’s own rules, by which I mean, internal logic. I say this tongue in cheek because the show - enjoyable as it was - was riddled with inconsistency, and absurdity ( eg & esp. the one where Lana got Superpowers ) and this shark jumping is something that ensured I had a Love/Hate relationship with Smallville over the years. Love won through though, and I endured every minute of all but one episode of ten seasons. ( see above eg & esp. for the exception)
Of all the characters from the comics ( rather than the few excellent inventions eg Chloe, Lionel, Tess ) - it was Durance’s Lois that had the best run. Demonstrating in this crazy and oft contradictory Smallville Universe genuine Character development - a hero’s journey - to greatness.
Lois also just beat Lex in the most number of times a character was knocked unconscious stakes. Quite an achievement seeing she joined the show half way through the run!
I think fans of the Lois Clark dynamic deserve Smallville Season 11, and I genuinely hope DC’s team manage to convey the best of the show into static art, including the sparkle of Erica’s Lois, rubbing up against Tom’s Clark/Superman.
